Waterside Woolen Mill

I had the opportunity, as part of a workshop, to photograph the historic Waterside Woolen Mill located in Morrison Cove, Bedford County, PA. The mill is one of the oldest operating woolen mills in the United States. The mill started operation in 1806 and continued operating through the mid- 1960's. The majority of equipment in the mill is original. In 1990, the mill was purchased and reopened by a family member to keep the family trade alive. The mill resumed producing traditional Pennsylvania woven blankets in 1993. In 2009 the mill was purchased by a local resident, Dennis Wile of Woodbury, PA. His desire is it to keep the mill as authentic as possible and to share the mill's history with the public. Dennis and his family are keeping this tradition alive by using the existing equipment and high quality, natural Virgin Wool to make blankets, vests and other woolen items. The mill and store are generally open on the weekends for public tours. If you are in the South Central Pennsylvania area and want a glimpse of the once rich American Industrial Revolution, stop by and take the tour. It will be something you remember and I know Dennis would love to have you stop by.
